Media Format chosen and the inspiration

Films-writers Russel T Davies/ Steven Moffat

For one of my inspirations behind film making goes to early 2005 doctor who writer Russel T Davies/Steven Moffat. Their work on the script for the show has been absolutely amazing as shown to be able to write some emotional deep dialogue within in this series that can make you feel such excitement, joy, thrills, fear, sadness and grief as they succeed in making you feel for these characters. Even though it's the actors who breathe life into these lines I don't believe the story would be nearly as effective without the brilliant minds behind these words.

The Doctor is one of the best characters to ever be brought to life on the small screen no matter who plays him. The Doctor is one of those characters who will stick with you through your childhood to your adult hood. The Doctor to me is more to than some fictional SI-FI character who travels through time and space in a blue box who fights off monsters, aliens and villains with a screwdriver. He is my hero someone I can look up to; someone I can relate to minus the intelligent the part and someone who can comfort you. The Doctor is a character who touched the hearts of millions cross the world because he taught us it was alright to be scared because fear makes companions of us all. Love is wise. Anger is always foolish. Below I have written a few paragraphs below going over some of my favourite moment's in the show.

One of the best things from revival series is how consistent the character development was in the first season of the Doctor Who. As in the episode known as Dalek, we see Doctor put in a similar situation as he has chance to kill his mortal enemy in a fit of grief, rage and vengeance but with Rose standing in between of them. Rose for the first time sees all the grief and survivor guilt that he usually keeps buried all come to the surface, it was terrifying. Rose seeing what the Doctor is becoming she choose to talk him down in hopes into not only save the dalek but the doctor. In which she succeed in doing turning him from killer to coward, harvester to healer which carry's up to the 9th s final episode. Symbolising change of character from the one we met at the first season.

Due to how well the Doctor who writers write character ARCs in their show. How they do this is by using themes they are telling in their story and making it a part of their character such as the Doctor representing mental illness of survivor's guilt and the Dalek being the embodiment of fascism. This not only help get they're theme across, but it helps add another layer to they're characters as we see how they handle these personal issues, how it effects social interactions, routines and approach to life.

I've also added 12th's speech about kindness due to not how profound and raw it is but how it sums up Peter Capaldi Doctor. As who someone who always tries to help people in need. Not for reward. Not thrills. Not to win. Not for attention. But out of kindness. Because that is who the Doctor is someone who looks out for others no matter how how hopeless or dire the situation is. The Doctor will always make a stand against those who would cause unprovoked harm to others.
Seeing how effective this method is not just tv series but as well as films and games so I will use this writing technique to help develop my characters.

Episode: Dalek
The Doctor: Rose, get out of the way now!
Rose Tyler: No! Cause I won't let you do this.
The Doctor: That thing killed hundreds of people.
Rose Tyler: It's not the one pointing the gun at me.
The Doctor: I've got to do this, I've got to end it. The Dalek's destroyed my home, my people. I've got nothing left.
Rose Tyler: Look at it.
The Doctor: Whats it doing?
Rose Tyler: It's the sunlight it's all it wants.
The Doctor: It can't-
Rose Tyler: It couldn't kill Van Satten, it couldn't kill me, it's changing. What about you Doctor what are you changing into?
The Doctor: I couldn't, I wasn't, oh Rose they're all dead.

Dalek: Why do we survive?
The Doctor: I don't know.
Dalek: I am the last of the Daleks.
The Doctor: You're not even that. Rose did more than regenerate you. You've absorbed her DNA. You're mutating.
Dalek: Into what?
The Doctor: Something new. I'm sorry.
Rose Tyler: Isn't that better?
The Doctor: Not for a Dalek.
Dalek: I can feel. So many ideas. So much darkness. Rose, give me orders. Order me to die.
Rose Tyler: I can't do that.
Dalek: This is not life. This is sickness. I shall not be like you. Order my destruction! Obey! *Obey*! O-BEY!
Rose Tyler: Do it

Episode: Parting of the ways
The Doctor: It's ready!
[looks up as loads of Daleks enter the room and surround him]
The Doctor: You really wanna think about this, 'cos if I activate the signal, every living creature dies.
Emperor Dalek: I am immortal.
The Doctor: D'you really wanna put that to the test?
Emperor Dalek: I want to see you become like me. Hail, the Doctor, the great exterminator!
The Doctor: [hands on the lever] I'll do it!
Emperor Dalek: Then prove yourself, Doctor. What are you, coward or killer?
The Doctor: [Doctor makes to push the lever down, pauses, and steps away] Coward, any day.
Emperor Dalek: Mankind will be harvested because of your weaknesses!
The Doctor: And what about me? Am I becoming one of your angels?
Emperor Dalek: You are the heathen. You will be exterminated!
The Doctor: Maybe it's time.
Episode: The Doctor Falls

Twelfth Doctor: [to the Masters] No! No! When I say no, you turn back around!
[catches up with them]
Twelfth Doctor: Hey! I'm going to be dead in a few hours, so before I go, let's have this out, you and me, once and for all. Winning? Is that what you think it's about? I'm not trying to win. I'm not doing this because I want to beat someone, or because I hate someone, or because, because I want to blame someone. It's not because it's fun and God knows it's not because it's easy. It's not even because it works, because it hardly ever does. I do what I do, because it's right! Because it's decent! And above all, it's kind. It's just that. Just kind. If I run away today, good people will die. If I stand and fight, some of them might live. Maybe not many, maybe not for long. Hey, you know, maybe there's no point in any of this at all, but it's the best I can do, so I'm going to do it. And I will stand here doing it till it kills me. You're going to die too, some day. How will that be? Have you thought about it? What would you die for? Who I am is where I stand. Where I stand, is where I fall. Stand with me. These people are terrified. Maybe we can help, a little. Why not, just at the end, just be kind?
Animation/youtuber-Vivzipop

What I find so motivating Vivzipops animation isn't just the pretty colours but how they express their characters not by just the use of dialogue but through facial and body language.

For example if Millie is hyper and excited she will start buzzing with energy trying to contain herself or she will start bouncing on of the walls or how a huge grin will form on her lips with her eyes shot open.

How about When Moxxie gets annoyed he will have his arms crossed and eyes close to show how annoyed he is at his boss Blitzo (the o is silent) incompetence of leadership.

Another one is design to help represent the characters social class and personality.

I'll use Moxxie again and Millie next. So Moxxie is from high social class of demons so he wear fancy suit with a big fashionable bow to represent that. It also shows high level of job professionalism the character has.

Millie is a country farm girl from the wrath ring who has a strong taste for killing. So like most west country farm girls, she wears ripped jeans and overalls.

Another factor I do like about Vivzi content is the life they bring to each ring we travel to in helluva boss and how they have personality.

The greed ring for example are over populated gangsters and mob bosses, and the they show this is by not only putting shady characters but showing some of the events that take place there. Like a gang war is going on in the background, robberies, shady dealings or that one imp continually stabbing into the body bag.
The wrath ring on the other hand has this western spaghetti theme to the environment with some elements of hell with it. With mine shafts, farmland and caverns. Filled cowboy dressed themed imps.

The lust ring filled to the brim with temptation and bright, colourful neon lights with most enterprise selling point being sex or drugs.

The target audience is aimed towards young adult age group specifically 18+ rating. Why this is case is because the amount of gore, sexual content, swearing and crude humour they put in. As well as deep themes that kids might have difficult time to understand though it's mostly because of the sex and gore that might petrify any poor child that witness this show.

Poster - Minimalist
Minimalist so simple to understand as long as you recognise iconic scene it's trying to sell to it's intended audience. For example the scene from the dark knight film where the Joker kill a man with a pencil to insert a level of power and fear amongst the mafia. Using that scene they draw a pencil that is coated in darkness. Or the dirty dancing scene where Johnny catches baby to show the level of trust they have one and another. Recreates this scene with illustrator with few changes such as Johnny being half submerged under water.

Simplistic in it's art form but yet effective in it's approach as it draws in audiences popular franchise. Which I could sadly not use for this project but I could borrow a scene from my horror trailer to recreate a scene from that project at the start of this course and turn it into a poster.

With Halloween as an inspiration instead of having the villain in the centre of the poster I will have the tarot cards take centre stage. Due to cards play a crucial role to that story.

Documentary design:
The key to making a good document is following the five key element which are subject, form, purpose, production techniques and audience experience.
Subject is of course seems like the obvious one out the other elements as it is important to point out what is the story your trying to tell but it's important that your can also tell what kind of tail your trying tell. That sources your gathering your information from are reliable and that they have evidence to back their facts up. Determine how long your video will you need to take so you can give a full clear understanding explanation of what the subject is instead making it super short to the point it becomes confusing or nonsensical. Most important though show you also have a clear insight into the topic your telling by asking question relevant to the matter and throw in some of your own personal thoughts of how you feel about this subject and what it means to you.

Purpose. What do you want to achieve with your documentary? To increase awareness? To educate? Share your thoughts, opinions? These are questions one must answer when creating any form of media content. To ask yourself what I hope to achieve. For me my end goal is to be able to create a captivating, fun opinionated video while still maintaining quite a bit of education

When creating form we are talking about creating a straight forward structure. In other words a plan. Do you want to create linear narrative which consists of cohesive beginning, middle and end. Do I want create a animation recreating and re-imagining certain events to help further the narrative or give an idea what those events could have been like? Or do I want to create document where I talk to the audience and interview someone. So I choose the later option as I would like to give my audience introspective into different thoughts and opinions so giving my audience look and come up with their own opinions.

Production techniques are what kind of footage you plan to use whether you gather it for yourself or you ask permission and someone else footage. Since it will be my own footage I'll be just go other what that means and what is required. So, I'll have to determine what questions I'm going to ask, whats relevant, that it is cohesive and that it does not go of topic and keep them straightforward.
Audience Experience is another that comes straight to mind since who it's for and what will be able to show and tell the our target. So if choice to choose to make document for children I would have consider what would be age appropriate. For example I wouldn't show someone having they're gut being ripped out and cannibalised or talk about rape as these subject would be deemed to graphic for child minority. What I would do then is cut out as much sensitive material as possible without taking key parts and if said key parts are deemed to vile best solution is to turn it down.

The self-illusion of heroics:

Hitler as we all remembered was a vile cruel disgusting man who convinced himself that he was doing good by maintaining German purity and the eradicating Jew by stripping them of there citizen ship. Making it near impossible The rest of world though we look the other way until they tried to stir up trouble with the rest of the world only then we decide to do something about it. Why did we turn a blind because unemployment had had dropped precipitously under Hitler’s early commandeering of the economy, and the average German felt renewed hope and pride, the face of Germany seemed brighter.

In Rise of evil we get a bit more of a in depth look into his hatred for Jews such as hearing from someone about how he never saw fight in the war. A thought that would stick with even after the war ended. Which would be one of the leading contributes to for Hitler wanting to committing genocide.

portrayal in media:

In today movies, TV and games good and evil are laid out as complex as most villain are portrayed as sympathetic due to certain stances to help carry out themes in these media platform. Like for example Darth Vader the Star wars franchise. When we first meet him in a new hope he is depicted as the big powerful cruel boss who doesn't take kindly to failure I mean this guy would force choke an imperial officer just because he points out how he was unable to get the location of the death star plan. I mean heck in Jedi fallen order this guy killed The second sister just because he lost to Cal Ketsis. But thanks to the prequel trilogy and the clone wars it gives a more in depth to his character making him out to be a victim of circumstance as we learn in the phantom menace how he and his Mother was sold into slavery in a young age. only to find out he is to be the chosen one to bring balance to force only then to be denied being trained because of his age. That's all I'm going to use from website if I tried to cram more in it take to long so here is the link.

Religion:
One of the major themes of this movie is the Notre Dame Cathedral itself. It plays a significant role in the book it is where the main setting takes place and it’s the focus of the main theme of the story. During the time that Victor Hugo wrote this book, the cathedral had fallen into disrepair. Victor Hugo felt strongly about the cathedral. the book captures the romantic era as one that is extreme in religion, passion, and architecture. The themes of fate and destiny are set up in the book. It also explores social strife and revolution.

We see this extreme religion theme take the form of Frollo who believe himself to be doing gods work specifically when he seen killing Quasimodo Mother and deeming him some form of a monster. The only reason why Quasimodo survives is because the priest puts the fear of god in him. Due to him fearing his soul being damned by god Frollo decides to spare him only to end up using him as a tool for future plans. Why Frollo killed the Mother was because she was Gypsies. Why the church hunted and persecute Gypsies was because they were seen as dirty, deceitful, too lazy to work, and prone to steal.

This most likely inspired by the 12-century group known as the Inquisition which was group of the most loyal zealots of Catholic church. Who main purpose and goal was round up other religious groups to have them unlawfully imprisoned so they could torture them. Why they did this was because within this time period it was seen as heresy a defiant against there one true god. Tricksters, liars and devil worshippers. Not to mention in dark age the church had more influential power over the people then the actual king and queen.
